I have been teaching first graders for 30 of 31 years of my professional career. I started teaching at Wright Elementary in 1985. Then I spent several years at Washington Jefferson Elementary until the school was changed to house the district preschoolers. At that time I moved to Juniata. This is my fourth year at this school and I really enjoy working here. I love teaching first grade for many reasons. The children at this age are like little sponges. They have a love for learning and really enjoy doing homework. When children develop good study habits at an early age, this helps them to become lifelong learners. Science seems like magic as they begin to understand the concepts of how things work. I really love the growth that I see both socially and academically in one year.
The year I started teaching is also the year that I got married to my husband, Randy. We have three children. Our son, Craig is the oldest. He is a forester and lives in Altoona with his wife, Alexandra. Bruce is our second child and he is an insurance rep/ financial planner. He lives in North Carolina with his wife, Katie. Kara is our youngest. She lives in Williamsport with her little dog, Sebastian. She works in a hospital as a Respiratory Therapist.
