Welcome to Kindergarten
Kindergarten is a landmark year for you and your child! The children explore and grow physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. We will begin the groundwork for your child's future success. It is our hope that through the experiences of kindergarten your child develops self-confidence and the academic skills to be a lifelong learner. We are honored to be your child's first teacher at Juniata Elementary.

Juniata Kindergarten uses Guided Reading Strategies (IEB Block)
Guided reading begins for kindergarten in January. This small group reading instruction allows the teacher to instruct and support those developing readers who are at approximately the same level. As the leveled text becomes easier and reading strategies are used more independently, the teacher introduces new text increasing the levels of difficulty to meet the changing needs of the students.
What does Guided Reading Look Like?
*Teacher works with 4-6 students in each group.
* Children are grouped according to similarities in reading development and instructional reading levels.
*Teacher introduces stories, strategies, and concepts within group to increase independent application
in appropriate leveled text.
* Every child reads and is supported by teacher.
* Emphasis is on strategic problem solving within appropriate leveled text.
